Understanding the Enemy The Migration to Venus Grace discovers that Astrophage migrate to Venus to breed, using carbon dioxide. The Petrova line is the path of migration. This explains why the Sun is dimming: the Astrophage are consuming its energy and then heading to Venus. The Exponential Growth The Astrophage population doubles every eight days, leading to runaway consumption. The Sun will dim by 10% within a few decades, causing an ice age. The threat is existential. The Search for a Solution Grace's research leads to the discovery of Taumoeba, a natural predator. The conflict shifts from understanding the enemy to finding a weapon against it.

The Solution: Taumoeba Deployment

The Final Victory The Beetles' Mission Grace sends the beetles to Earth with Taumoeba and instructions. The scientists on Earth use the Taumoeba to eliminate the Astrophage from the Sun.
